The North Dakota Court System has announced a full-time position for a court reporter within the South Central Judicial District Court Judge Chambers in Bismarck. The annual salary for this role is $62,232.00, and the position offers an excellent benefits package including employer-paid family health insurance premiums, retirement contributions, and generous vacation and sick leave accruals.
Candidates interested in this opportunity must have at least a high school diploma and either graduation from an approved program in court reporting or the Registered Professional Reporter certification along with one year of related experience. A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is also required. Stenographic equipment and software are provided by the ND Court System.
The job responsibilities include making verbatim records of district and juvenile court trials using computer-aided transcription, shorthand, or audio recording equipment. The court reporter will also provide administrative support to a district judge and staff, assist in calendar control and scheduling, serve as a liaison between the judge and others, and produce all required transcripts.
To succeed in this role, candidates should be highly dependable, detail-oriented, assertive in ensuring accurate records, skilled in customer service, proofreading grammar and punctuation perfectionists. They must also possess considerable knowledge of stenograph methods, Computer Aided Transcription software skills, recordkeeping skills, legal research skills among others.
The work environment is described as comfortable with some travel required within or outside the district for assigned court proceedings. Physical requirements are light with occasional exertion up to 20 lbs., frequent exertion up to 10 lbs., or negligible constant force.
