A St. Louis resident has confessed to orchestrating a series of fraudulent auto accidents with the intent to deceive insurance companies. Adrian Peebles, aged 31, admitted guilt to one count of mail fraud in court on Monday.
Peebles acknowledged that between September 2021 and January 2023, he staged car accidents primarily at night in secluded areas to avoid detection. During these incidents, he often claimed injuries to police officers and sought emergency room treatment for "non-determinative pain" which led to costly tests without revealing any specific injury. He ensured that payments from the vehicle insurance companies were directed to him instead of the hospital and subsequently failed to settle his medical bills.
The fraudulent activities resulted in two insurance companies incurring losses amounting to $107,951 due to Peebles' actions.
Peebles is slated for sentencing on April 17. The FBI conducted the investigation, while Assistant U.S. Attorney John Ware is handling the prosecution.
