A Florida man has been sentenced to 41 months in prison for filing false tax returns. Jeremy Charles DeWitte, who owned Metro State Special Services, a funeral-procession escort business in Central Florida, was found guilty of underreporting his business's revenue on his individual income tax returns for 2017 and 2018.
U.S. District Judge Julie S. Sneed also ordered DeWitte to serve one year of supervised release and pay approximately $70,000 in restitution to the United States.
The announcement was made by Acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General Stuart M. Goldberg of the Justice Department’s Tax Division and U.S. Attorney Roger B. Handberg for the Middle District of Florida.
The case was investigated by IRS Criminal Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant Chief David Zisserson and Trial Attorney Curtis Weidler of the Tax Division, with assistance from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.
