The New York Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation (OSI) has initiated an investigation into the death of Lynn Walsh. Walsh passed away on March 17, 2023, following a motor vehicle collision involving an off-duty member of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) in Massapequa Park, Nassau County on March 10, 2023.

According to reports, Walsh was crossing Sunrise Highway at the intersection with Unqua Road in a pedestrian crosswalk when she was struck by three vehicles. One of these vehicles was driven by an off-duty NYPD officer. Walsh was taken to a local hospital where she later died.

In accordance with New York State Executive Law Section 70-b, OSI evaluates every incident reported to it where a police officer or peace officer might have caused a person's death through action or inaction. This law applies whether the officer is on-duty or off-duty and regardless of whether the deceased was armed or unarmed, in custody, or incarcerated. If OSI's evaluation suggests that an officer may have been responsible for the death, they proceed with a full investigation.

These details are preliminary and may change as the investigation continues.
