A Cedar Rapids man has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for drug trafficking offenses. Darryl Fonte Jackson, aged 51, received the sentence following his guilty plea on July 1, 2024, to one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
During the hearings, evidence was presented showing that on July 25, 2022, law enforcement officers used a confidential informant to purchase methamphetamine and synthetic cannabinoids from Jackson. Subsequently, searches conducted at Jackson's home and workplace revealed methamphetamine, marijuana, cocaine, synthetic cannabinoids, and a loaded firearm. Jackson had a prior conviction in 2006 for federal drug and gun crimes.
United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams sentenced Jackson in Cedar Rapids to 168 months of imprisonment. Following his prison term, he will serve a ten-year supervised release period. It is noted that there is no parole in the federal system.
Jackson remains in the custody of the United States Marshal until he is transported to a federal prison.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Vander Stoep. The investigation involved multiple agencies including the High Risk Unit of the Sixth Judicial District Department of Correctional Services; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force which includes participation from several local law enforcement agencies.
