Ulises Casterjon-Gallegos, a 39-year-old Mexican citizen, has been sentenced to four months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after previously being removed. The sentencing was announced by Timothy M. O’Shea, the United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin. U.S. District Judge William M. Conley delivered the sentence following Casterjon-Gallegos's guilty plea on September 11, 2024.
Casterjon-Gallegos was apprehended on January 29, 2024, in Barron County, Wisconsin, for methamphetamine possession. He had initially been deported from the United States in 2008 and had been removed four more times before his latest arrest related to drugs.
During sentencing, Judge Conley addressed Casterjon-Gallegos's substance abuse issues and past convictions and arrests for domestic abuse. Judge Conley advised him to commit to sobriety and reconsider his treatment of women in his life. He also warned that a future illegal reentry into the country would result in more severe penalties due to his current conviction.
The charge stemmed from an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) alongside the Barron County Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Colleen Lennon prosecuted the case.
