An 18-year-old from Alamo, Texas, has admitted guilt in a federal court to using a firearm during drug trafficking activities. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani.
The case stems from a traffic stop on May 29, when law enforcement officers found Emiliano Cabriales as a passenger in the vehicle. A search revealed a concealed firearm under his seat.
Further investigation uncovered approximately 14 grams of cocaine hidden in individual baggies inside Cabriales' pants. He confessed to possessing the drugs and stated that he carried the firearm for protection.
U.S. District Judge Drew B. Tipton is scheduled to sentence Cabriales on March 11, 2025. Cabriales could face life imprisonment and a fine of up to $250,000.
Cabriales remains in custody awaiting sentencing.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Alamo Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Cahal P. McColgan is handling the prosecution under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime through community-focused strategies. This initiative was revitalized in May 2021 by Attorney General Merrick B. Garland to address gun violence and includes principles such as fostering community trust and setting strategic enforcement priorities.
