A Honduran national has been indicted for allegedly misusing a social security number to gain employment. The U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana, Duane A. Evans, announced the indictment of Francis Osorio Canales on December 5, 2024. Osorio Canales, aged 44, is charged under Title 42, United States Code, Section 408(a)(7)(B).

If found guilty, Osorio Canales could face up to five years in prison and up to three years of supervised release. Additionally, he may be subject to a fine of up to $250,000 and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.

U.S. Attorney Evans emphasized that an indictment is merely a formal charge and stressed that "the guilt of the defendant must be proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt."

The announcement acknowledged the contributions of ICE Enforcement Removal Office and Homeland Security Investigations in the case. Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell from the General Crimes Unit will oversee the prosecution.
