A Honduran national, Alex Saul Hernandez-Perez, has been indicted for reentry of a deported alien. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Duane A. Evans on December 5, 2024. Hernandez-Perez, aged 33, is accused of violating Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a).

Court documents reveal that Hernandez-Perez was discovered in St. Bernard Parish around October 21, 2024. He had previously been deported to Honduras on June 13, 2019.

If convicted, Hernandez-Perez could face up to two years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, up to three years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.

U.S. Attorney Evans emphasized that an indictment is merely a charge and the defendant's guilt must be established beyond a reasonable doubt.

Evans acknowledged the efforts of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection in investigating the case. Assistant United States Attorney Spiro G. Latsis from the General Crimes Unit is handling the prosecution.
