A convicted felon from Center Point, Alabama, has been sentenced to 42 months in prison for illegally possessing firearms. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona and United States Marshal Martin Keely.
Ro’Daryus Donell Mitchell, aged 27, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Annmarie C. Axon after pleading guilty in August to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The plea agreement details that on May 31, 2023, the United States Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force (GCRFTF) was searching for Mitchell due to multiple arrest warrants. These included 22 counts of unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle, four counts of theft of property in the second degree, one count of receiving stolen property in the second degree, and a probation revocation warrant for violation of the State Firearms Act.
Mitchell was found at a residence in Birmingham and arrested on these outstanding warrants. A search at the location led to the seizure of several firearms: a Glock 9mm pistol loaded with 17 rounds, an American Tactical .300 pistol, and a Taurus .45 caliber pistol loaded with five rounds. Multiple firearm magazines were also recovered. It was discovered that both the American Tactical .300 pistol and the Taurus .45 caliber pistol had been reported stolen earlier in May 2023.
At the time of his arrest, Mitchell had previous convictions for two counts of unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle in Jefferson County's Circuit Court.
The investigation was conducted by USMS GCRFTF along with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kristy Peoples.
