A Richmond man, Bobby Nathaniel Scott, 39, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The sentencing took place today.

Court documents reveal that on February 11, 2024, Richmond Police responded to gunshots near a playground in the Fairfield Court neighborhood. Officers saw two individuals fleeing and pursued them on foot. Scott was identified as one of the individuals after he tripped and dropped a rifle near trashcans. The rifle was loaded with a 20-round magazine.

Scott's criminal history includes ten prior felony convictions for crimes such as domestic assault, grand theft auto, and various drug offenses. At the time of his arrest, he was on active probation and faced additional charges in Prince George County for robbery and other violent crimes. As a convicted felon, Scott is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.

The announcement of Scott's sentencing was made by Jessica D. Aber, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; Anthony A. Spotswood from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Washington Field Division; Colette Wallace McEachin, Commonwealth’s Attorney for Richmond; and Rick Edwards, Chief of Richmond Police.

The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Katherine E. Groover and Assistant U.S. Attorney Olivia L. Norman.
