A Cape Girardeau man has admitted to recording his sexual abuse of a child. Steven Lee Brown, 33, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Cape Girardeau to one count of production of child pornography.

Court documents reveal that last May, the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office received a report regarding Brown's sexual abuse of a 10-year-old child. The child was interviewed and confirmed the abuse. Officers responded to Brown’s residence, where he confessed to engaging in various sexual acts with the child and using his cell phone to record some of the activities.

Officers seized Brown’s phone and found several sexually explicit images of the minor on it. During his plea hearing, Brown admitted to producing this material with his cell phone.

Brown is scheduled for sentencing on March 6, 2025. He faces a minimum sentence of 15 years and could receive up to 30 years in prison.

The case was investigated by the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI. Assistant United States Attorney Jack Koester is prosecuting for the Government.
