Hamidullah Tribble, a 29-year-old from Chicago, Illinois, was sentenced to over eight years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The sentencing followed a two-day jury trial and was delivered by United States District Court Judge Philip P. Simon, as announced by United States Attorney Clifford D. Johnson.
Tribble's sentence includes 100 months in prison and an additional two years of supervised release. The case documents reveal that on July 19, 2022, law enforcement attempted to stop Tribble's vehicle in LaPorte County, Indiana. Instead of complying, Tribble fled at high speed, reaching over 100 miles per hour while weaving through traffic. The chase continued into Lake County where he crashed into a semi-trailer and another vehicle. During his arrest, officers found a loaded semi-automatic pistol on him.
Tribble's criminal record includes previous Illinois felony convictions for possessing a firearm with a defaced serial number, possession of a stolen vehicle, and criminal sexual abuse. These prior convictions legally barred him from possessing firearms or ammunition.
The investigation involved the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Indiana High Intensity Drug Trafficking Task Force along with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department. Assistant United States Attorney Kristian R. Mukoski prosecuted the case.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence by coordinating efforts among law enforcement agencies and community groups. The Department launched an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy on May 26, 2021, focusing on building community trust and legitimacy while supporting organizations that prevent violence.
