A Hartford man has admitted to trafficking crystal methamphetamine, according to Vanessa Roberts Avery, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut. Godfrey Smith, also known as "Mike" and "Mikey," pleaded guilty in Bridgeport federal court to a charge related to methamphetamine trafficking.

Court documents reveal that in April 2024, the Drug Enforcement Administration's Hartford Task Force and Middletown Police Department conducted a controlled purchase of approximately 53 grams of crystal methamphetamine from an individual in Middletown. Investigators identified Smith as the source during this transaction. Later, on August 22, 2024, another controlled purchase was made from Smith in Hartford involving about 240 grams of crystal methamphetamine.

Smith was arrested on September 4, 2024, following a federal criminal complaint. At the time of his arrest, authorities seized around 27 grams of crystal methamphetamine, along with other substances including cocaine and crack cocaine. Additionally, $3,200 in cash and a box of .45 caliber ammunition were confiscated.

Smith entered a guilty plea for possession with intent to distribute and distribution of five grams or more of methamphetamine. This offense carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and could lead to a maximum sentence of up to 40 years in prison. U.S. District Judge Robert N. Chatigny is scheduled to sentence Smith on February 28.

Currently released on a $100,000 bond pending sentencing, Smith's case involves multiple law enforcement agencies. The DEA’s Hartford Task Force includes personnel from various police departments across Connecticut as well as assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The prosecution is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney A. Reed Durham.
