Bryan Jermaine Davis, a 37-year-old resident of Jacksonville, Florida, has entered a guilty plea for possessing ammunition as a convicted felon. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg. Davis could face up to 15 years in federal prison, though the date for sentencing has not been determined.

Court documents reveal that on July 5, 2024, an officer from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office stopped Davis for not wearing a seatbelt. During the stop, Davis admitted to having marijuana in his possession. A subsequent search of his vehicle uncovered a bag with assorted rounds of ammunition and a ghost gun under the driver's seat. Ghost guns lack serial numbers and are untraceable. Upon discovery of these items, Davis attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended by responding officers.

At the time of this incident, Davis had several prior felony convictions including robbery, selling heroin, possession of cocaine, dealing in stolen property, and possession of a weapon by a state prisoner. As per federal law, individuals with felony convictions are prohibited from possessing ammunition.

The investigation into this case was conducted by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Brenna Falzetta is prosecuting the case.

This legal action is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. On May 26, 2021, an enhanced strategy for reducing violent crime was launched by the Department to bolster PSN efforts through community trust-building measures and strategic enforcement priorities.
