Jalen Lamarcus Gunn, a 21-year-old resident of Montgomery, Alabama, has admitted guilt to federal charges related to the robbery of two convenience stores. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Kevin Davidson on November 8, 2024.
Court documents reveal that on April 27, 2024, Gunn entered a convenience store located on Wares Ferry Road in Montgomery. He jumped over the counter and brandished a firearm at the clerk, demanding money be placed into a plastic bag. Gunn escaped with approximately $3,000. On April 29th, he repeated this crime at another store on Perry Hill Road. This time he stole $2,500 and several packs of cigarettes after threatening the clerk with a handgun.
During his plea hearing, Gunn admitted to two counts of interference with interstate commerce by robbery and one count of brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a federal crime of violence.
Gunn's sentencing is pending and will occur in the upcoming months. He could face between seven years to life imprisonment. A federal district court judge will decide his sentence according to U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. Notably, there is no parole option in the federal system.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation alongside the Montgomery Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Christopher P. Moore is handling the prosecution.
