U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross has announced the sentencing of Donald Campbell Sr., a 62-year-old resident of Elmira, NY. Campbell, who was convicted of possession of child pornography following a prior conviction under New York State laws, received a sentence of 144 months in prison. Chief U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford delivered the sentence.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Katelyn M. Hartford provided details about the case, revealing that between July 25, 2022, and January 9, 2023, Campbell possessed digital devices such as a cell phone and an SD card containing child pornography images and videos. These materials were downloaded and distributed over the internet by Campbell. He was found to have more than 600 images and videos, some involving prepubescent children under 12 years old subjected to violent sexual abuse, as well as the sexual abuse of an infant.
Campbell is a registered level-three sex offender, indicating the highest risk level. His status follows two previous felony convictions for child pornography offenses in New York State Court in December 2004 and March 2019.
The investigation leading to this sentencing was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation Human Trafficking Task Force, led by Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia, along with the Elmira Police Department under Chief Kristen Thorne's direction.
