U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross has announced the sentencing of Brett Marrapese, a 32-year-old former firefighter from Irondequoit, New York. Marrapese was sentenced to 210 months in prison by Chief U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford after being convicted of distributing and receiving child pornography.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle P. Rossi, who managed the case, detailed that between January 2016 and June 13, 2023, Marrapese used various digital platforms to engage in illegal activities related to child pornography. These platforms included a cell phone, laptop computer, email account, and multiple social media and internet chat applications such as Omegle, Kik, Snapchat, and Instagram.

Marrapese was found to have received over 600 images of child pornography through the internet. He also impersonated a teenage boy to manipulate minors into producing and sending him sexually explicit images of themselves. Some of these images depicted severe violence against children.

The investigation leading to Marrapese's conviction was conducted by the Irondequoit Police Department under Chief Scott Peters' direction and the Federal Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force led by Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia.
