Jesse Taber, a 46-year-old resident of Rotterdam, New York, has pled guilty to the unlawful possession of a firearm. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Bryan Miller, Special Agent in Charge of the New York Field Division of the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).
Taber's admission revealed that on December 26, 2023, he was in possession of a 12-gauge Stoeger Coach Gun shotgun at his residence in Rotterdam. His previous felony conviction prohibited him from legally possessing such a weapon.
The sentencing is scheduled for April 2, 2025. Taber could face up to 15 years in prison, a fine reaching $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release. Sentencing will be determined by a judge who will consider the specific statute violated, the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, and other relevant factors.
The ATF conducted the investigation with help from the Rotterdam Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Rick Belliss is handling the prosecution.
