DOJ investigates Fresno officer-involved shooting under AB 1506

California Attorney General Rob Bonta has announced that the California Department of Justice is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Fresno, California. The incident occurred on December 24, 2024, at approximately 12:25 p.m. and involved the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. The shooting resulted in the death of one individual.

The investigation is being conducted under Assembly Bill 1506 (AB 1506), which mandates independent reviews of such incidents. Following notification by local authorities, the DOJ's California Police Shooting Investigation Team began its investigation as required by AB 1506. Once the investigation is complete, it will be handed over to the DOJ’s Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division for an independent review.
