The Tennessee Attorney General's Division of Consumer Affairs has issued a reminder to veterans and service members affected by Harris Jewelry's business practices to file claims for refunds by December 21, 2024.
In June 2020, Tennessee reached a settlement with Harris Jewelry over allegations that the company violated the Services Business Act and the Tennessee Consumer Protection Act. Two years later, similar issues led to a settlement involving the Federal Trade Commission and other states.
As part of these settlements, Harris Jewelry agreed to provide restitution to consumers impacted by its practices. Although some consumers have already received compensation, many eligible individuals were unable to file claims due to the premature closure of Harris Jewelry's restitution portal. The court has since ordered the company to reopen this portal, but the opportunity for filing claims is nearing its end.
Consumers who signed a retail installment contract that included a Lifetime Jewelry and Watch Protection Plan ("JWPP") between January 1, 2014, and July 20, 2022, are eligible for full refunds of their JWPP purchases.
The Division of Consumer Affairs particularly encourages veterans and service members in Tennessee, especially those in Montgomery County and the Fort Campbell area, to submit their claims before the deadline on December 21, 2024.
