Kaelin Williams, a 27-year-old resident of Alexandria, Louisiana, has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for the illegal possession of a machine gun. This sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Dee D. Drell, as announced by U.S. Attorney Brandon B. Brown. Following his prison term, Williams will also serve two years of supervised release.
Williams faced charges after being indicted for possessing a machine gun illegally and pleaded guilty on August 21, 2024. The charges stemmed from a federal search conducted on March 1, 2024, at the residence he shared with his brother in Alexandria. During the search, law enforcement found Williams alone in the home with two Anderson Model AM-15 AR-Type multi-caliber pistols equipped with machine gun conversion devices. Additionally, several "Glock switches," which convert firearms into machine guns and are illegal, were discovered. Williams admitted to knowing the illegality of these devices.
The investigation was carried out by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Homeland Security Investigations, and the Alexandria Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Lauren L. Gardner prosecuted the case.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities across different levels—federal, state, local, and tribal—to create effective strategies tailored to local needs.
