Juan Jose-Ambrosio, a 27-year-old Mexican citizen residing in Onondaga County, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for illegally reentering the United States. This follows his previous conviction for illegal reentry last year. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Thomas P. Brophy, Field Office Director of U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ICE-ERO) in Buffalo, NY.
Jose-Ambrosio had been deported or removed from the United States to Mexico on three occasions. In his prior guilty plea, he acknowledged his conviction for illegal reentry into the United States in August 2023 and subsequent deportation. He returned again and was recently located in Syracuse, New York after being arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Following his prison sentence, Jose-Ambrosio will face deportation once more.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security-ICE-ERO with assistance from the United States Marshal Service and the Town of New Hartford Police Department. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul Tuck prosecuted the case.
