United States Attorney Brandon B. Brown announced the sentencing of two men from Acadia Parish on firearms charges. Tylius Arceneaux, 35, from Lafayette, Louisiana, received a 37-month prison sentence followed by three years of supervised release for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition by a prohibited person. The incident occurred on July 7, 2021, when Arceneaux was involved in a vehicle crash in Lafayette. He was found with a Beretta 9mm semi-automatic handgun and approximately 23 rounds of ammunition. Due to his previous felony convictions, Arceneaux was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. He admitted to the charge and pleaded guilty on September 5, 2024.
The investigation was conducted by the ATF and Lafayette Police Department, with Assistant United States Attorney Lauren L. Gardner prosecuting the case.
In a separate case, Kiari Robinson, also 35 and from Crowley, Louisiana, was sentenced to 37 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Robinson pleaded guilty on September 4, 2024. On November 11, 2022, narcotics agents from the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office observed Robinson running a stop sign and attempting to flee law enforcement at high speed. Upon stopping his vehicle, deputies discovered a black Glock handgun with an extended magazine on the floorboard. Robinson's previous felony convictions made it illegal for him to possess the firearm. Photos on his cell phone confirmed he had been holding the weapon.
This case was investigated by ATF and Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney LaDonte A. Murphy.
