In a recent announcement, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody emphasized the importance of safe driving practices during the holiday season. As part of National Impaired Driving Prevention Month, Moody is urging Floridians to avoid impaired driving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that drunk driving accidents result in a fatality every 39 minutes across the nation.

Data from last December indicates that Florida experienced 507 alcohol-related crashes, marking it as the month with the highest number of such incidents. Moody shared advice on how to prevent these accidents during this festive period.

"In December, there is an increase in drunk driving accidents. These accidents ruin lives and can destroy families," said Attorney General Ashley Moody. "The good news is they are 100% preventable. It’s simple, never drink and drive – instead, designate a driver, or use a ridesharing service. Follow this simple advice and we can all enjoy a happy, safe holiday season."

To ensure safety on the roads, Moody recommends several precautions: avoiding driving under the influence or allowing others to do so; designating a sober driver or using rideshare services if consuming alcohol; always wearing seatbelts; steering clear of distractions like texting while driving; and being particularly cautious of impaired drivers at night.

The American Automobile Association (AAA) offers its Tow to Go program since 1998 for both members and nonmembers on major holidays. This service provides free confidential rides for impaired drivers and their vehicles.

Additionally, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) continues its mission to eliminate victims of drunk or drugged driving accidents. Their website provides resources including statistics and support helplines for Floridians seeking more information.
