Brian Nathaniel Marshall, a resident of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison on December 18, 2024, for receiving child pornography. The sentencing took place in Cedar Rapids under United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand.

Marshall's plea agreement revealed that he possessed images of prepubescent minors on his phone and computer. In addition to his prison sentence, Marshall was ordered to pay $27,000 in restitution to nine victims who were exploited in the production of child pornography and had requested compensation for damages.

The case against Marshall was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nicole L. Nagin and investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce, the Joint Forensic Analysis Cyber Team, and the Mt. Vernon Police Department.

Marshall is currently held in the custody of the United States Marshal until his transfer to a federal prison. There is no parole option available within the federal system.

This prosecution forms part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project combines efforts from federal, state, and local resources to prosecute offenders and rescue victims.
