Attorney General Todd Rokita has initiated legal action against several car dealerships in Indiana, alleging deceptive practices that have impacted consumers purchasing used vehicles. The lawsuits target issues such as the failure to deliver titles and selling cars with salvage titles not permissible for use on state roads.
"Indiana consumers deserve to get what they pay for," stated Attorney General Rokita. "We won’t hesitate to bring lawsuits against car dealers who lie or fail to honor their end of agreements with purchasers. Deceptive conduct hurts consumers, and it hurts the reputation of the vast majority of Indiana car dealers who conduct business the right way."
The businesses facing these allegations include Cars R Us, MG Motors, Merliot Auto Sales, Phoenix Motors, Redelman's Deals on Wheels, and W. Main Auto Sales.
Specific claims involve MG Motors and W. Main Auto Sales allegedly failing to provide titles for a combined total of 39 vehicles sold. Merliot Auto Sales is accused of selling 17 vehicles with undisclosed salvage title brands.
Cars R Us allegedly did not fulfill an agreement to pay off a loan on a consumer's trade-in vehicle, resulting in multiple loans for the buyer. Phoenix Motors is accused of selling vehicles it did not own and subsequently repossessing them from buyers without refunding payments.
Redelman's Deals on Wheels reportedly continued sales activities after losing its dealer license in December 2023.
Attorney General Rokita seeks injunctive relief, restitution for affected consumers, civil penalties, and associated costs through these lawsuits.
