Jamie L. Pannell, a 43-year-old resident of Columbus, Ohio, has been sentenced to 78 months in prison for firearms offenses. The sentencing took place in U.S. District Court.
Court documents reveal that during April and May 2023, Pannell engaged in the sale of multiple firearms, some equipped with auto-conversion devices, to an undercover agent. These devices convert a firearm into a fully automatic weapon capable of discharging an entire magazine with a single trigger pull.
Pannell was involved in discussions with the undercover agent about switch devices, highlighting differences between metal and plastic versions and indicating his ability to provide these devices in future dealings. He subsequently sold additional firearms to the agent, two of which included switches.
In total, eight firearms were sold by Pannell during controlled law enforcement operations. As a convicted felon, Pannell is legally barred from possessing firearms and ammunition. His criminal history includes convictions for violent crimes against women.
Pannell faced federal charges in June 2023 and entered a guilty plea in April 2024 for illegal possession of firearms as a felon and possession of machineguns.
The sentence was announced by Kenneth L. Parker, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, along with Daryl S. McCormick, Special Agent in Charge at the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF). Assistant United States Attorney Elizabeth A. Geraghty is representing the government in this case.
