Todd Baldwin, a former coach and teaching assistant at Valley Christian High School in San Jose, appeared in federal court facing charges related to the enticement of minors and receipt of child pornography. Baldwin, aged 44 and currently residing in Bremerton, Washington, was initially charged on October 10, 2024, with further information filed on November 19, 2024.
The complaint against Baldwin alleges that he persuaded two minor boys from the high school to produce child sexual abuse materials in exchange for money between December 2022 and August 2023. It is claimed that Baldwin paid thousands of dollars through mobile payment services to these minors and others whom he recruited for creating such materials for online resale. Some of these minors were reportedly designated as his "Teacher Assistants."
Baldwin faces two counts of enticement of minors under 18 U.S.C. § 2422(b) and two counts of receipt of child pornography under 18 U.S.C. §§ 2252(a)(2) and (b). If convicted, he could face a life sentence or a minimum of ten years' imprisonment, along with potential fines up to $250,000, supervised release terms, and restitution.
After surrendering to authorities on October 28, Baldwin made his initial court appearance the same day. He is currently released under conditions pending his next court date before Judge Beth Labson Freeman on February 4, 2025.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Ismail J. Ramsey alongside FBI Special Agent Robert K. Tripp. Assistant United States Attorney Marissa Harris is leading the prosecution with support from Sahib Kaur. The investigation involved both the FBI and the San Jose Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Squad.
