Holland & Knight served as lead counsel to SunEnergy1 in the signing of a purchase and exclusivity agreement with Brookfield (NYSE: BAM), along with institutional partners including its listed affiliate Brookfield Renewable (NYSE: BEP, BEPC), for the acquisition and construction of an initial 510-megawatt (MW) portfolio of utility-scale solar projects in North Carolina and Virginia.

The transaction, announced on Dec. 13, also provides Brookfield exclusivity over an incremental 330 MW of projects and the potential to add new projects from SunEnergy1's 14-gigawatt (GW) solar development pipeline.

The transaction leverages the combined capabilities of SunEnergy1's vertically integrated development and construction capabilities and Brookfield's commercial contracting and access to capital to deliver new clean power capacity to meet the growing needs of corporate customers.

North Carolina-based SunEnergy1 is a solar engineering, procurement and construction company and developer with more than 50 utility-scale projects built and more than 5,000 MW developed in the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland Interconnection.

Holland & Knight's representation of SunEnergy1 was led by Partners Stephen Humes, Trevor Ruff and Jackson Allen. They were assisted by Partners Amish Shah, Loren Forrest Jr., Matt Roberts and Nicole Elliott and Associates Kitty Xie, Emily Smith, Kyle Vits and Mary Kate Nicholson.
