A man from Council Bluffs, Iowa, has been sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. According to court documents, Kyle Robert Smith, 31, was found with a distribution quantity of methamphetamine in April 2024. After his arrest, he instructed a co-conspirator to retrieve and sell two pounds of methamphetamine. In March 2024, Smith was also found with a loaded handgun despite being prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior domestic violence conviction.
Smith will serve a five-year term of supervised release following his imprisonment. The federal system does not allow parole.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa. The case involved investigations by the Southwest Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force, Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Council Bluffs Police Department.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that unites law enforcement and communities to reduce violent crime and gun violence while making neighborhoods safer.
