U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans has announced the sentencing of Shavonda Chambers, a 44-year-old resident of New Orleans, for embezzling funds from her employer. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Susie Morgan on December 10, 2024.

Court documents reveal that Chambers, who worked as a bookkeeper for a local business, submitted false electronic payroll authorizations to an out-of-state payroll processing company. This fraudulent activity allowed her to steal and divert over $2.5 million into financial accounts she controlled.

Chambers received a sentence of thirty-six months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Additionally, she has been ordered to pay restitution exceeding $2.5 million and a mandatory special assessment fee of one hundred dollars.

The investigation was conducted by the United States Secret Service, with Assistant United States Attorney Richard R. Pickens II from the Financial Crimes Unit leading the prosecution.
