David Allen Starkey, a 37-year-old resident of Flemington, West Virginia, has been sentenced to 165 months in federal prison for unlawfully possessing a firearm. The sentence was announced in Clarksburg, West Virginia.
The incident leading to Starkey's arrest occurred when officers were executing an arrest warrant for another individual on parole violation charges at a residence in Barbour County. During the operation, Starkey was found hiding inside the home where law enforcement discovered an assault rifle and a handgun. Due to his prior convictions related to drugs, burglary, grand larceny, firearms offenses, and battery, Starkey is prohibited from possessing firearms.
Following his prison term, Starkey will be subject to three years of supervised release.
The investigation was conducted by several agencies including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Mountain Region Drug Task Force which is funded by HIDTA; the United States Marshals Service; and the Barbour County Sheriff’s Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Warner represented the government in prosecuting this case. Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the proceedings.
