America First Legal (AFL) has released the academic records of Thomas Matthew Crooks, identified as the shooter in the assassination attempt on President Trump on July 13, 2024. The incident occurred during a rally near Butler, Pennsylvania.
The release of these records is part of AFL's investigation into the attempted assassination. The organization obtained the documents from the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC).
AFL and its counsel, Wally Zimolong, filed a request under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law on July 17, 2024, seeking access to Crooks's student files. Initially, CCAC denied this request on August 18, 2024, citing an ongoing criminal investigation as the reason for withholding the information.
Following this denial, AFL appealed to the Pennsylvania Office of Open Records on September 10, 2024. On November 19, 2024, the office ruled that CCAC must provide AFL with the requested student records.
