David Degrasse, a 54-year-old resident of West Warwick, Rhode Island, has been indicted on charges related to the interstate transportation of stolen property. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman, Craig L. Tremaroli, Special Agent in Charge of the Albany Field Office of the FBI, and New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James.
According to the indictment, Degrasse allegedly transported approximately $9,300 from an ATM machine in Greene County to Connecticut on April 27, 2023. It is important to note that these charges are accusations at this stage; Degrasse is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The charge against Degrasse carries potential penalties including a maximum term of 10 years in prison, a fine up to $250,000, and a supervised release term up to three years. Sentencing will be determined by a judge who will consider the statute violated, U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, and other relevant factors.
Degrasse appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Christian F. Hummel in Albany for arraignment and has been ordered detained pending trial. The trial is scheduled before Senior United States District Judge Frederick J. Scullin Jr.
The case is under investigation by both the FBI and State Police with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan S. Reiner handling prosecution duties.
