Cyril Hoffman Jr., a 26-year-old resident of New Orleans, has pleaded guilty to federal drug and weapons charges. The plea was entered on December 10, 2024, before U.S. District Judge Darrel J. Papillion. Hoffman admitted to two counts of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and charges related to firearm possession in connection with drug trafficking.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation executed a search warrant at Hoffman's residence on August 20, 2021. During the search, agents found marijuana intended for sale and six firearms in his bedroom. Among the firearms were various semi-automatic pistols and rifles, each loaded with live rounds.
Prior to the search warrant execution, Hoffman had been indicted in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court for several felony offenses, including attempted second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. He was arrested following the search but was released on bond in June 2022.
While under indictment and awaiting trial, Hoffman was found by U.S. Marshals Service deputies in a motel room where a Glock Model 22 firearm was present. Although he denied ownership of the gun, FBI investigations later revealed messages indicating his possession of it. Despite being on bond, Hoffman continued selling marijuana, leading to another FBI search at his new residence in May 2023 where more drugs and distribution materials were found.
For each conviction related to marijuana distribution, Hoffman faces up to five years imprisonment and a minimum of two years supervised release. His firearm-related conviction carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years up to life imprisonment and additional supervised release terms. Each charge includes potential fines up to $250,000 and special assessment fees.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. It emphasizes building trust within communities and prioritizing strategic enforcement actions.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David Berman from the Violent Crime Unit.
