Shakeitha Wiley, a 41-year-old resident of New Orleans, has been sentenced to three years probation for mail theft. The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans on December 5, 2024. Wiley had previously pleaded guilty to the unauthorized opening of mail, which is a violation under Title 18, United States Code, Section 1703(b). Alongside her probation, Wiley has been ordered to pay a $25 mandatory special assessment fee and restitution and fine amounting to $210.

Court documents reveal that on or around August 25, 2023, Wiley, who worked as a mail handler at the New Orleans Processing and Distribution Center, opened a parcel not addressed to her. She removed two gift cards worth $210 from the package and later used them for personal gain.

The investigation into this case was conducted by the United States Postal Service's Office of the Inspector General. Assistant United States Attorney Christine Calogero from the General Crimes Unit led the prosecution.
