Jurors in the U.S. District Court in Cape Girardeau have found a man from Poplar Bluff guilty of possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute. The verdict was delivered on Thursday.
The trial presented evidence and testimony indicating that on August 6, 2020, an officer from the Poplar Bluff Police Department attempted to stop a Ford Fusion driven by Deshante R. Nabors. Nabors did not stop and instead threw a black sock containing methamphetamine out of the vehicle. He then exited the moving car and fled on foot but was later apprehended. At the time of his arrest, Nabors had $1,030 in cash and a clear bag with additional methamphetamine in his possession. More drugs were found inside the vehicle.
Nabors, aged 33, faces sentencing on March 18, 2025, with potential penalties reaching up to 20 years imprisonment.
The Poplar Bluff Police Department conducted the investigation into this case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Paul Hahn and Christopher Shelton are responsible for prosecuting it.
