Today in Sacramento, California Attorney General Rob Bonta collaborated with Midtown HART to provide guidance on safe donation practices during the holiday season. The Attorney General, who oversees charities and professional fundraisers, emphasized the importance of ensuring donations reach their intended recipients.

"This time of year, as we gather with loved ones and reflect on the blessings in our lives, many individuals and families feel inspired to give back to their communities," said Attorney General Rob Bonta. He highlighted Midtown HART's efforts in addressing homelessness by connecting individuals with essential services such as shelter, food, and healthcare. "I want to express my heartfelt appreciation for their partnership in providing valuable charity tips," he added.

Cory Cooper, Midtown HART Board President, expressed gratitude for the Attorney General's visit. "We appreciate Attorney General Bonta and his staff visiting us today as part of their holiday drive to give guidance on safe donating," Cooper stated. He noted that Midtown HART serves over 400 guests weekly with the help of nearly 50 volunteers.

Attorney General Bonta provided several tips for safe donating:

2. Trustworthy Organizations: Research charities thoroughly before donating.

3. Avoid Pressure: Be wary of telemarketers using pressure tactics.

5. Watch for Deceptive Names: Be cautious of organizations with names similar to established charities.

6. Peer-to-Peer Fundraising: Investigate social media campaigns before donating.

7. Protect Personal Information: Do not share sensitive information in response to solicitations.

8. Electronic Donations: Confirm legitimacy when making electronic donations.
