Matthew Frazier, a 51-year-old resident of LaPorte, Indiana, has been sentenced to 120 months in prison for possession of child pornography. United States District Court Judge Damon R. Leichty handed down the sentence following Frazier's conviction after a one-day trial. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Clifford D. Johnson.
In addition to his prison term, Frazier will be subject to seven years of supervised release upon completion of his sentence.
Court documents reveal that in September 2022, while on probation for previous state court convictions related to child exploitation and possession of child pornography, authorities conducted a search at Frazier's residence. This search led to the discovery of an electronic device containing 18 photos and 18 videos depicting child sexual abuse material.
The investigation into this case was carried out by Homeland Security Investigations with support from the Indiana State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Michigan City Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys Hannah T Jones and Jerome W. McKeever prosecuted the case.
This prosecution falls under Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 aimed at protecting children from exploitation and abuse. The program coordinates efforts between federal, state, and local agencies to apprehend offenders and rescue victims.
