Edward Keith Perkins, a 31-year-old resident of Charleston, West Virginia, has pleaded guilty to attempted possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The plea was entered in a federal court on December 11, 2024.

Court documents reveal that Perkins shipped approximately 4.43 kilograms of methamphetamine from California to an address on Virginia Street in Charleston. On August 22, 2024, he traveled to West Virginia and went to the location intending to retrieve the package. When law enforcement approached him, Perkins admitted the package contained about 50 grams of fentanyl alongside the methamphetamine.

Perkins is set for sentencing on March 6, 2025. He faces up to 20 years in prison, a minimum of three years of supervised release, and a potential fine of $1 million.

United States Attorney Will Thompson acknowledged the efforts of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security-Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT). MDENT includes several local police departments and sheriff's offices.

The hearing was overseen by United States District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys JC MacCallum and Alexander A. Redmon.
