The Second Circuit Veterans Court is set to hold a graduation ceremony to honor the achievements of its participants on December 18, 2024, at 9 a.m. CST. The event will be held in Courtroom 3B at the Minnehaha County Courthouse in Sioux Falls.

The ceremony will commence with the American Legion Post 15 Honor Guard and will be led by veteran law enforcement. Participants will receive challenge coins from volunteer mentors, while Circuit Court Judge Eric C. Johnson will present them with certificates.

Cody Henrichs, executive director of the Minnesota West Community and Technical College Foundation and professor at the University of South Dakota, will deliver the keynote address. Henrichs has personal experience with addiction recovery and military service, having remained sober for over two decades following his enlistment in the United States Army.

The graduation marks a significant milestone for participants as they work towards building responsible lives. The public is invited to attend along with family and friends of the graduates. Attendees must enter through the courthouse's front entry and undergo security screening before proceeding to the third floor.

Second Circuit Veterans Court offers an alternative rehabilitation method focused on supervision rather than incarceration. It provides access to counseling, treatment, and support for veterans dealing with addiction issues. The program includes regular court appearances, mandatory treatment sessions, and random drug and alcohol testing. Volunteer veteran mentors play a crucial role in guiding participants through their recovery journey.
