A Cut Bank man has admitted to assaulting a teenage girl, resulting in serious injuries, on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. U.S. Attorney Jesse Laslovich announced that Elijah John Bullcalf, 21, pleaded guilty to the charge of assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
Bullcalf could face up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release. Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris is overseeing the case and will determine the sentence after reviewing the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal factors. The sentencing is scheduled for April 10, 2025. Until then, Bullcalf remains detained.
According to court documents presented by the government, the incident occurred on May 25, 2023. Bullcalf assaulted a 17-year-old victim referred to as Jane Doe at a residence in Browning on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. During an argument between them, Bullcalf struck Doe in the face and broke her jaw. She received medical treatment for her injury the following day.
Approximately one month later, Bullcalf reportedly struck Doe again in the same area of her jaw, causing further pain and bleeding. In early 2024, Doe and her mother reported these assaults to law enforcement authorities, leading to Bullcalf's admission of guilt.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office is handling prosecution duties while both the FBI and Blackfeet Law Enforcement Services conducted investigations into this case.
