United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg has announced that Jesse L. Anderson, aged 43 from St. Petersburg, has admitted guilt to charges of theft by a postal employee. The potential sentence for Anderson is up to five years in federal prison, although no date for sentencing has been scheduled yet.

The plea agreement reveals that the investigation began in May 2023 when the United States Postal Service (USPS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) received a complaint about stolen mail, which included a credit card and Social Security card. In October 2023, another complaint was filed by the same individual regarding a second missing credit card. Investigations revealed that Anderson had used the stolen credit card while on his designated postal route.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Service – Office of Inspector General and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Erin Claire Favorit and Abigail K. King.
