Brian Scott, a 44-year-old resident of Albany, New York, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release. This sentence comes as a result of his involvement in a conspiracy to distribute at least five kilograms of cocaine and 100 kilograms of marijuana, along with distributing cocaine.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman, alongside Craig L. Tremaroli, Special Agent in Charge of the Albany Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James; and Erin Keegan, Special Agent in Charge of the Buffalo Field Office of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
Scott's guilty plea revealed that between June 2020 and October 2023, he participated in a drug trafficking organization operating in the Capital Region and the North Country. He admitted to working with a co-conspirator to send drug couriers, known as "horses," to transport cocaine northward and marijuana southward within these regions. Furthermore, Scott confessed to trafficking at least seven kilograms of cocaine from another co-conspirator and selling over 400 grams to another individual.
In addition to his prison sentence, Scott has been ordered to forfeit $4,865 seized during the investigation and pay a forfeiture money judgment amounting to $17,180.
The case was investigated by the FBI, New York State Police, and HSI. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Cyrus P.W. Rieck and Joseph Hartunian.
