With New York City condo and co-op boards facing ever-increasing insurance, financial, tax, and regulatory headwinds, Cozen O’Connor announced one of the city’s leading real estate litigators, Christopher Cobb, has joined its expanding Condominiums and Cooperatives practice. Cobb brings to the firm nearly three decades of experience as a residential real estate and construction litigator with substantial cooperative housing and condominium practice. He joins the firm as a member and will work out of Cozen O’Connor’s New York City office.

Cobb comes to the firm from Tarter Krinsky & Drogin LLP, where he was that firm’s “go to” attorney on condo/co-op matters. He has experience representing both the sponsor-developers of condominiums and cooperatives, as well as condo, co-op, and community association boards. His track record ranges from negotiating/preparing access licenses, easements and other real property agreements, to helping condo/co-op boards maintain compliance with a growing list of state and local tax and regulatory measures. In his new role, he’ll work closely with Leni Morrison Cummins, chair of Cozen O’Connor’s Condominiums & Cooperatives practice.

“Today’s New York condo and co-op clients are operating in a very challenging and litigious environment, facing regulatory and legal hurdles at federal, state, and local levels,” said Cummins. “Chris brings decades of experience helping clients navigate what are by any measure difficult financial and governmental issues. He’s an important addition to our team and I’m very much looking forward to working with him.”

“I’m thrilled that Chris has chosen to step in and play an important role on our condo and co-op team,” said William F. Davis, vice chair of the firm’s Real Estate practice. “In addition to his condo and co-op practice, he also brings us substantial experience handling real estate-based litigation. In today’s real estate markets, particularly here in New York City, a lawyer of his caliber is a valuable addition and I’m happy to welcome him to Cozen O’Connor.”

Cobb’s background includes litigating construction defect cases, RPAPL 881 petitions, alteration agreements, breach of lease/by-laws and other condo/co-op disputes in both state and federal courts and in mediation and arbitration forums. He also has experience in advising condo/co-op boards on corporate governance.

“Cozen O’Connor is known as a cutting-edge firm and its decision to further expand its Condominiums and Cooperatives practice is proof positive of that. New York City can be a difficult environment for condo and co-op clients and I’m well-suited to help them address and resolve a wide range of issues,” Cobb said. “My experience, combined with the firm’s many related legal resources now available to me, makes Cozen O’Connor the ideal place for me to serve my clients and grow my practice further.”

Cobb earned is J.D. at American University in Washington, D.C., and a B.A. in international relations from Roanoke College in Salem Va.
