Officer-involved death under investigation in Grand Rapids Township

The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating an officer-involved death in the Township of Grand Rapids, Wood County, Wisconsin. The incident occurred on the evening of December 8, 2024.

At around 11:40 p.m., a police officer from the Township of Grand Rapids responded to a welfare check at a residence on Kellner Road. Upon arrival, the officer encountered an uncooperative female. Officers from the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department and Wood County Sheriff’s Office arrived to assist. The woman was taken into custody but became unresponsive shortly afterward. She was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. No firearms were discharged during this incident.

The officers involved are currently on administrative duty as per agency policies and were wearing body cameras during the event.

The DCI is leading the investigation with assistance from a DCI Crime Response Specialist. All law enforcement officers involved are cooperating fully with the investigation.

The DCI continues to review evidence and determine facts related to this case. Once concluded, investigative reports will be submitted to the Wood County District Attorney’s office.
