Richawn McClain, a 26-year-old resident of Troy, New York, has entered a guilty plea for charges related to drug trafficking and firearm possession. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman alongside Frank A. Tarentino III, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), New York Division.
McClain's charges include possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and cocaine, as well as possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking activities. He now faces a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 10 years, which could extend up to life imprisonment. Additionally, he may receive a supervised release term ranging from three years to life and could be fined up to $1 million.
On January 9, 2024, McClain was found with a handgun modified into a machinegun along with 32 grams of cocaine and over 900 fentanyl pills. In the same bag containing these narcotics was $22,770 in cash that McClain must forfeit according to his plea agreement.
The DEA conducted the investigation leading to these charges. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan S. Reiner is handling the prosecution.
