Attorney General Kris Mayes has submitted a motion to the Arizona Supreme Court seeking to establish a briefing schedule for an upcoming motion that will request a warrant of execution for Aaron Brian Gunches. Gunches was sentenced to death following his conviction for the 2002 murder of Ted Price.

"This is not a decision that I have made lightly, but the death penalty is the law in our state, and it is my job to uphold it," stated Attorney General Mayes. "The family of Ted Price has waited for over 22 years for justice in this case, and I am committed to ensuring that justice is served."

The filing indicates the State of Arizona's intention to pursue a warrant of execution as per A.R.S. § 13–759(A) and Arizona Rule of Criminal Procedure 31.23(b). The proposed motion for the Warrant of Execution accompanies the filing.
