DOJ investigates Santa Ana police shooting under AB 1506

California Attorney General Rob Bonta has announced an investigation by the California Department of Justice into a recent officer-involved shooting in Santa Ana. The incident, which occurred on December 1, 2024, at around 5:00 p.m., resulted in one fatality.

This investigation is being conducted under Assembly Bill 1506 (AB 1506), which mandates independent reviews of such incidents. Following notification from local authorities, the DOJ's California Police Shooting Investigation Team commenced their inquiry as per AB 1506 requirements.

Once the investigation is concluded, it will be forwarded to the DOJ’s Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division for an independent review.
